No one had ever imagined that this girl with 90% in Higher Secondary, and interest in medicine, born in a small family in India could go on to win the Miss World in London and make the entire country proud, moreover place the country on the global map, making it one of the most sought for countries when it came to fashion and design. Aishwarya Rai did one of her first modeling assignments when she was barely in the 9th grade. She then went on to become a top model and also became very famous on the small screen because of an advertisement with a leading Bollywood actor.
In 1994 she won the second prize in the Miss India contest, she later went on to win the Miss World contest and then was also crowned as Miss Photogenic in London. She was then the Miss World for a year. She was an excellent model and directors were trying to cast her in films as she had a pleasant face and acting skills. Her first major Bollywood success came quite early in her career in the form of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, a film opposite two leading Bollywood actors of that time, she won her first Filmfare award for her work in that film.
She then did a number of roles, from a miserable girl who is very protective of her father, to the role of a Christian girl Shirley who falls in love with her brothers enemy in Josh, she has done critically and commercially successful films like Devdas and Mohabattein, Devdas received 10 Filmfare awards and was the second highest grosser of that year. It was also screened at the Cannes film festival, not many films get a chance to be screened there. She also won best actress award for the same movie.
A professional set back arrived from years 2003-2008 where there were a number of releases from different production houses, some in English, some in Hindi, as well as Telugu, she did not have any major commercial success but a number of films were critically acclaimed. Her 7 minute dance sequence Kajra Re in the film Bunty aur Bubli made Aishwarya Rai photos and Aishwarya Rai videos very famous on the internet and television screens across the country. The audience loved the way how she danced in this song and it was a chartbuster for quite some time.
She has been a part of a number of charities throughout her career. She has performed on stage to raise money for tsunami victims. Also the Bachchan family is building a school in U.P. and is named after Aishwarya Rai. She has also donated generously to various such charity functions in and around Mumbai. She is now married to Abhishek Bachchan and lives with him in their residence in Mumbai. She is a deeply religious Hindu and gave birth to a baby girl on the 16th of November 2011. A number of fashion and lifestyle magazines were ready to pay millions to the Bachchans for a picture of the new entrant in the family.
